I Hate Plumbing

When we moved into our house it had an apartment sized dishwasher installed. You know the type, small, 18 inches wide and a pain in the ass to replace. It lasted many years before it had issues. Initially the water line in had some corrosion, I got that fixed with plumbers putty. Then the drain out corroded and I used some heavy tubing to fix that. Finally water was just pouring out of it. From a chunk of glass that our former idiot roommate had broken and dumped into the dishwasher any way. The piece of glass had gotten caught in a mechanism and slowly over year, cut through some plastic housing. Parts were astronomically expensive and cost as much as replacing the machine.

We didn’t have the funds to repair or replace. So we left it dry and in place for years.

A few weeks back my wife got an alert on a sale on an apartment sized machine on Amazon. It was shockingly in our price range, while also being a big expense. We decided to use the last of the Christmas money my Mom gave us and buy it. It arrived early. Dumped unceremoniously on our porch by UPS.

I did not order the install kit from Amazon, I planned to order that locally. But the local hardware store was out of stock. So I went to Lowes, spent a lot on the wrong kit. The new dishwasher had a 3/8th fitting and NOT the hose style fitting. I looked to see if I could get an adapter, nope. So I headed to local place website to see if I could get a hose and adapter. I could. I figured since we had the sink cleaned out I could also fix a few issues under there and finally replace the seal on the drain. They didn’t have everything I needed unless I waited 2 days. I looked at Lowes, they didn’t have what I needed either.

So I ordered from Home Despot. UGH.

After getting all the parts and tools I needed I was able to fully install the dishwasher, fix the sink, and install the new sprayer in an hour. Go figure the right job for the job makes a huge amount of difference.

I still hate plumbing though.

While disassembling the drain I found that we had some fat bergs and nastiness that reminds me that I need to go back to my once a year running foaming draino through the pipes.

I have since run the new dishwasher and it’s nice and quiet and gets things nice and clean!
